It’s definitely different – and was searching to see what others thought. Odd camera angles (close ups, etc) and odd arrangement of characters in relationship to each other (Columbo laying out almost like a bathing beauty on the dock; the assistant detective on his knees in the Commodore’s house finding a piece of a watch under the sofa and then all three of the policemen, including Columbo, on their knees, arses up; Columbo sitting on top of the Robert Vaughn character in two scenes and touching the character at every opportunity) – it almost seemed like a farce of a musical with those overly chummy/male/touchy-feely/homoerotic overtones. And I agree, Columbo seems to be playing “dumber” than usual (ie; not dumb, tongue in cheek, but dumb in a childlike way). I mean, what’s with Columbo always being in a trio with the other two detective (the older experienced one and the younger one)??
